#24 Give
EVERYDAY EVENTS:
This week’s Exceptional Expression for Everyday Events studies the word give. In a classroom, teachers may ask students to give their permission slips to the class leader. Students may ask their friends give them the ball when playing football.
EXCEPTIONAL EXPRESSION:
The first definition of give is the physical transfer of an object as in give me the book. This is the most common usage of the word give.
Give can also be a passage of words, feeling or ideas. For example, give me a good reason for letting you borrow my pen. In this case, words or ideas are being transferred.
It should be noted that some synonyms for give have technical definitions in science and other content areas. For example,?? the flu virus transferred from person to person.?? In this case, transfer means the movement of a disease.

Giv??e comes from and Old English word with German roots. The Spanish word for to give is ??dar. The Spanish word for give is not a cognate. However some of the synonyms for give have Spanish cognates such as to transmit / transmitir.
