In addition to making our classic QuickReads introduction, Text, Fluency & QuickReads, easier than ever to view online, we’ve added a new video of QuickReads author Freddy Hiebert presenting her In-Depth Overview of QuickReads with additional information on the rationale behind the QuickReads text model and its use of informational, non-fiction content.

Expanded Description of TExT Model

Much of Freddy Hiebert’s research work and product development has revolved around her groundbreaking text difficulty model, Text Elements by Task (TExT), which is useful both for analyzing existing texts and creating new ones, such as QuickReads. The revised and expanded TExT page shows examples of TExT’s analytical capabilities and explains how it’s used in QuickReads, including video clips of Freddy Hiebert discussing it and a demonstration of its characteristics in QuickReads vs. a typical basal reader.

Freddy’s Favorites explores Money and Business

The economic crisis in late September has affected everyone. Kids may not understand everything that is going on, but they are aware that there is a problem. This month’s selection of books focuses on Money and Business. These books help students learn more about economics and understand some of the factors that led to the economic crisis in late September.
